| Dunstaffnage
Castle as seen here dates from the 13th century, built by Duncan or Ewen
MacDougall Lords of Lorn.
The site however may well have be used as
a strong hold as far back as the 7th century, when it was possibly the
center of the kingdom of Dalriada.
Looking at the shape of the castle you
can see it was built for function, not just a dwelling but obviously to
repel attack and to be easily defended, it looks as imposing today as it
must have done to the medieval eye.
Its location on the west coast of Argyll makes it a very worth while visit
being near to so many other historic sites, Castle Sween, Kilchurn Castle
only 2 of the many as well as the natural beauty of Argyll and surrounding
areas.
The Castle is sited approx.3 miles north
of the town of Oban on the A85 near the village of Dunbeg.
