The first structure on this site of the Castle
was erected in the 13th century by the de Vaux family. The Dirleton came into the
Halyburton family in 14th century and finally into the Ruthvens name in 16th century. Situation: A few miles west of North Berwick at the village of
Dirleton off the A198.
