The
original Hospital in this photograph of 1900 was built in 1855 by money
bequeathed by Doctor Alexander Scott, who had made his fortune in India and
on his return to Aberdeenshire bought the Craibstone Estate.
The hospital built to house the aged and infirm was a great asset to the
town but was not large enough to cope with the amount of people who desired
to be admitted. In 1900 another benefactor Alexander Morrison of Bognie left
money. This money was used to enlarge the hospital and in this picture you
can see the new west wing and central tower and the east wing almost at
completion. |
