My thanks must first go to Mr Dennis Cook of Easter
Culbeuchly Farm Banff, who kindly allowed me the use of the photographic plates to reproduce these images. The glass photographic plates were recovered from the generator house of Murihill Farm,
Alvah, Banff around 1974. Sadly however out the numerous boxes of plates found, 1 box of 11 plates are the only ones left in his position. The other boxes being borrowed
from Muitryhill but never returned. Further thanks must also go to
Harold Cook, Aberdeen (Grandson of Walter Cook) and Ethne Smith, nee
Cook (Great Grand Daughter), Inverness for further information and
photographs of the Cook family. |

The photographs
here by Mr Walter Cook (no relation to Dennis) of Muiryhill Farm, Alvah,
Banff, Banffshire were taken around the turn of the 20th century. What
makes Watties photographs so interesting to SHO is that they show a
living history of Banffshire at the turn of the century and we would
dearly love to add more to this collection of this little known yet,
wonderful photographer. We do know that latterly, Wattie did take over
Shop premises in Banff and perhaps some of his photographs may be
marked W. Cook, Banff. If you have any photographs taken by Walter Cook
that we could add to this small collection please contact
Scottish History Online. |

We also need your help if possible to identify the Pictures, The Places
and People of the area in Banffshire where these pictures were taken.
Plus if we could trace the other missing boxes of plates! What a bonus that would be for the local history of the area. If you know any details of the following photographs or the possible whereabouts of the missing plates
or any further information on Walter Cook please contact us.
Note: some of the
photographs orientation may be incorrect |
